What is impasto? Impasto is an art term used to describe thickly textured paint that is almost three-
dimensional in appearance.
Using an impasto technique often leaves visible brush strokes in the finished painting. Many times those
brush strokes are actually more important than the subject matter itself.
You could almost say impasto is a type of sculpture—but for painters. And on a canvas.
For example, if you see a painting and you’re not sure whether the artist has used impasto technique,
just look at the painting from the side. Check for globs of paint sticking out from the canvas. That’s
impasto.
From the front, impasto paint is highlighted by whatever natural light is in the room (since it sticks out so
much) and with heavy impasto you’ll be able to see shadows underneath the paint too.
Unlike wet-on-wet blending techniques, impasto really makes a physical statement, which is why you’ll
find it most often in expressive, abstract works.
These original acrylic
paintings on canvas are
ready-to-hang!
The canvas is wrapped -
meaning it goes back
about 3/4" to 1 1/2"
inch towards the back,
so NO frame is needed
It looks better on a
wall without a frame!
I send them off ready
to hang with hooks,
and wired, no glass or
frame is needed.
The paintings are
brilliant in color, hard
to see this on this
website.
All you do is unwrap it
and hang!
(You need to put the
nail in the wall
however! :)
Other similar
paintings are
available
if one shown is not
available/or sold.
But each painting
is totally unique, I
can never "copy" an
exact likeness, only
one that may be
similar, so each
person owns their
own unique, one
of a kind original
painting!
I do not make
these into prints,
originals only.
My Acrylic on Canvas paintings are painted in an Impasto Style (not pasta!) which means the paint is applied very thick and actually sticks out away from the canvas! so the painting takes on a 3 dimensional look.
